The end of greyhound racing
In 1995 I adopted Allan, a greyhound rescued from Sanford Orlando Kennel Club, where he raced for three years. Allan was discarded like thousands of dogs before him for not being fast enough, making him no longer profitable.
For years adoption groups have worked to clean up the mess of this vile industry while trying to find homes for a surplus of dumped dogs, and animal advocacy groups have lobbied in Tallahassee for its end. Finally, dog racing will end forever in Florida at the stroke of midnight 2021, thanks to Amendment 13, which Floridians approved in 2018 with 69% of the vote. Many tracks in Florida have already stopped live racing, including SOKC. Let’s remember the innocent greyhounds who suffered and died at tracks throughout Florida. Their precious little lives will never be forgotten.

Good care from the VA
An email early Tuesday from the Orlando VA had me on the phone before 10 a.m. about getting a Covid19 vaccination. I was at the hospital at Lake Nona before 1 p.m. and found everything beautifully organized and staffed by professionals The process could not have been more careful and personalized. All the protocols we’ve been led to expect were in place and obeyed. What a relief for those of us eligible for VA care. The Orlando VA has been taking care of me for almost 30 years and I have nothing but admiration for their care and personnel. We Central Florida veterans are so lucky to have these facilities and their staffs serving us. Thanks, VA.

Hope for the New Year
A new, bright, unwritten year is on the brink. Let us enter it with hope. May we have containment of the virus, stability in our government, a booming economic recovery and open sincere relationships with all humanity. May we open the door to a healthy, prosperous, peaceful New Year. Alas, we bid 2020 farewell, may we never experience another year like you. 2021 we welcome you with open hearts. God bless us all. Happy New Year!

A spelling correction
Apparently there was a spelling error made by the federal government regarding the distribution of the vaccine that was to be administered to the public in a rapid manner. The correction should read “Operation Warped Speed.”
